An unhappy customer shared this in a review, "In the current environment I have to make an appointment to enter the branch, that's fine. I made an appointment for 1pm on a Friday. I arrived on time and there was already someone in the branch. I told security I had an appointment. An employee came to the door and spoke to me through the glass, which I couldn't hear. Since we were both wearing masks this seemed unnecessary and inconsiderate. Once she opened the door she explained that only one person at a time could be in the branch. I asked if I could sit on a chair in the waiting area, which was at least 10 ft away from any office or the teller line, and was told no. So instead, I waited past my appointment time, in the vestibule, less than 3 feet from customers who came in to use the ATM. There was a minimum of 10 posted signs at the doors and throughout the branch to keep 6 ft away, yet I'm forced to stand in a vestibule to wait and be too close to other customers, rather than be comfortable, safe, and more than the necessary social distance away from others, inside in the waiting area. I mentioned this to the teller and she didn't even respond; also very rude. This happened at the University Plaza branch on Main St. Let's use some common sense with the social distancing rules. This experience was inconvenient and unnecessary."

"Pay is below industry standards."

Current Employee - Relationship Banker says

"Micro Management from next manager. Offer made for $1 more per hour, only work 37.5 hours a week which means I made less in the long run. Company does not care about the little guy. Want you to think that you are in a wonderful place but if you have real issues they just back you down in a corner and make you feel isolated."

Former Employee - Branch Manager says

"Company is profitable, but working in branches you don't feel good or pride in the organization. What was a company proud of credit quality and growth through smart acquisition has stalled and is being passed by former peers like BB&T."

Banker (Current Employee) says

"Horrible company to work for they don’t care about hard working employees most likely the company is not doing well so they are getting rid of good employees that work hard Many times no time for lunchNo brakes"

"The management is terrible, they set you up to fail. Layoffs occur yearly, no room for advancement and only ever give you negative feedback. Stressful environment!NoneNo job security, management sets you up to fail"

Mortgage Loan Officer (Former Employee) says

"I had a horrible experience working at M & T bank and would never work there again. There was a lack of assistance when requiring it. My boss was in a different location which is horrible when an employee requires help. The assistance was not helpful anyways and the employees are mostly expecting to figure it on their own, which is bad business- I had no prior experience when hired for the position. Also, M & T bank gave a patheticly cheap salary & compensation which is immoral and shows their true colors. I would never apply for another job at that bank again. Also, there was is blatant favoritism to certain senior employees and based on location of employee for sale branch and that left a horrible taste in my mouth. This was worst job I ever has in my career! NoneSalary, lack of assistance, favoritism"

Claims Processor II (Former Employee) says

"Where do I start, well If you want to work at a place where there are lines to get in the bathroom and it constantly smells like someone dropped a bomb, this is the place for you. Training was minimal, asking for help was frowned upon. Most of the people I worked with were always in a terrible mood, old Bank of America employees that were still upset about being bought out 10 years ago. Not a fun place to be glad I left that place in my rear view mirror. NoneCulture, pay and benefits"

Manager (Former Employee) says

"Unless you have been with the bank for 30+ years you will not be respected or treated fairly. This place is old fashioned and their technology is from the 80s. It is like stepping back in time and their management style is no different. No equal pay for men and women."

"I had a manager that was micromanager and made it a hostile work environment. some people were nice, not him. he made me physically ill every day.. all my illnesses disappeared when i left"

"I choose to make no comment on this bank or my position during my tenure there. I left to take a position out of banking. The bank was large and required contact with several different locations."

Online Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) says

"I thought M&T was be great place to work for; but they are so far behind in ALL categories as a bank. The only funds they will ever manage for me is my paycheck. They trap you in positions that have high attrition rates- always an excuse for why you cannot advance to higher positions. No local HR-phone calls only to them- good luck with that. If you don’t like feeling of being a factory worker-STAY AWAY!!"

AML Analyst (Former Employee) says

"Veterans not valued and entire workforce sued Bank for unfair labor practices and won. Baltimore is an absolute terrible city. like blade runner without electricity"

"terrible work environment, no growth or opportunity. scheduling that made no sense. mandatory call nights. you feel like a hostage there. theirs better opportunity out there"

Contractor - Customer Service (Former Employee) says

"Contract position and I got very sick (Mono) daily they were calling/texting to say when are you coming back? Harassed repeatedly so I finally resigned due to not being ALLOWED to return. Now they have black balled me and we are off to an atty. My fault I got sick! Horrible Management/slave drivers! My manager asked me for my address to send a condolence gift because my dog also passed when I was sick and do you know she never sent it. But she has my address. They are so crooked! So dishonest. They give raises to their own and then look you in the face and say, you stink! Just not a professional atmosphere. Also people in HR make fun of people they interview and I will be contacting those they make fun of. See you in court for discrimination."

Regional Vice President (Former Employee) says

"Not a good place for women and minorities. Men often overstep bound and would fall within the ME TOO movement. Dont walk run from this organization. Regional presidents often have inappropriate relationships with employeesEverything"

Clerk (Former Employee) says

"Management give people they know higher. Pays and Management. jobs work 11 hours get 45 min lunch breaks you work with thousands of paper work only allow 8 errors a year get fired if you do not make a 90 or above always. stress on the job move you when you talk like a jailNothingStress. Not getting what you paid for"

Teller/ Vault Teller/Teller Trainer (Former Employee) says

"When I began here, I was happy and I enjoyed my work. I was faithful, and even choosen to help at other branches. I was denied from taking a step up, I was passed over for newcomers to be advanced, talked about, whispered about, I was told that the best are choosen to help at other branches and they had no problem renting me out. Yet the best was always ignored when it came to moving ahead. There were people there that couldn't even show up on time, but they were promoted. I was selected to become a teller- trainer, they even found a way to strip that from me. Then new "so-called" managers come in, who know nothing about the environment of the branch, came in. I was a vault teller and off the line alot, so my referrals dropped. I was told that if they didn't improve, I would be fired. I went home worried and in tears when I heard that. I had chest pains every day during the last 2 months of my employment there. The best move I made was when I turned in my resignation!Volunteer eventsSome of the people who work for this company"

Online Technical Support (Current Employee) says

"Technical support position. Working in call center setting. Inbound calls and troubleshooting. Online support with customer accounts and customer service."

Bank Teller (Former Employee) says

"worked parttime in Horseheads office, worked at the drive-thru window, would also help in the lobby teller window if needed. worked a few hours mainly parttime"

VP (Former Employee) says

"Management doesn't have a clue. Quite a few incompetent people in Group and Systems Management levels. Need to clear out the dead wood and the prima donnas. So many don't have a clue what they're doing but have been there long enough that no one does anything about it.Can't think of anyIncompetent managers"

Mortgage Loan Originator (Former Employee) says

"Bank is still stuck in the old ways. I wouldn't recommend this bank as they have a terrible processing method that is no longer utilized in the industry. Processors hold up files and delay clsoings regularly. This is an awful company to work for."

Project Analyst II (Former Employee) says

"I worked at M&T for over 6 years and would not recommend it as a place to work. Each position I was in hired management that didn't care about the current employees or value their input in any way. Ideas were not listened to and completely dismissed if they differed in any way from the manager's, regardless of how your differing opinions was shared. It's an okay place to get your foot into the workforce but it is not a long time employer.NoneEverything"

James says

"Why is it every time we are expecting a stimulus check the website and app stops working? They know by now their system can not handle the overflow of customers who will be checking to see if their money came in and yet they refuse to update their servers. That can only be because the board does not want to spend any funds that they need for bonuses or pay raises for them selves. I live in a poorer neighborhood and they know we have no choice when it comes to other banks. But after 10 years I will be closing my account and switch to Chase bank who is not having any issues at all."
